Dar il-Kaptan has been awarded the European Parliament’s Citizen's Prize for 2016.

All six Maltese MEPs nominated the foundation to reward the service it offered patients and clients.

As the organisation celebrates its 25th anniversary, it has to date provided services to around 425 families. At present, there are 280 families regularly using its services.

MEPs present at the ceremony showed their appreciation for the services Dar il-Kaptan offered.

The Maltese Citizen's Prize Laureate organisation will join others from 26 EU countries in a central ceremony, to be held in October 2016 at the European Parliament in Brussels.

This article was amended at 5.17pm to more clearly reflect the fact that all of Malta's MEPs nominated Dar il-Kaptan for the award.
