People who have been repeatedly clearing a memorial to Daphne Caruana Galizia are "very close to the Office of the Prime Minister", an Opposition MP has claimed.
In a Facebook post, Karol Aquilina said that police "know exactly" who was responsible for the overnight removal of candles, flowers and other mementos placed at the Valletta site.
The memorial, which has been set up by activists at the Great Siege Memorial monument on Republic Street, was cleared twice in two days by unknown people, with items swept away in the dead of night.
On each occasion, the memorial was restored by activists within a few hours.
Despite the area being monitored by CCTV, police and authorities have so far failed to make any statements about the repeated clearing of the site.
Mr Aquilina's claim comes just one day after he wrote to the police commissioner asking him to inspect CCTV footage of the area to try and identify the perpetrators.
