Danish MPs are being briefed on the disproportionate influx of irregular migrants to Malta during a series of one-to-one meetings with Paul Radmilli, the head of mission at Malta's Embassy in Copenhagen.

During the meetings, Mr Radmilli is raising issues related to concrete solidarity from member states in the context of the European Pact on Immigration and Asylum, specifically on the reallocation of beneficiaries of international protection from Malta to other member states, as well as on the responsibilities of member states to give Frontex the resources to fulfil its mission.

Last year Denmark provided Malta with its expertise and experience on assisted voluntary return. Knowledge of the Danish experience was put to use when the Ministry of Foreign Affairs last year coordinated the first successful voluntary returns, which, through the ‘SOS Malta’ non-governmental organisation, saw 70 migrants returning to their country of origin.
