This uncovered manhole, which forms part of the reverse osmosis plant in Pembroke, enables water from the plant to be returned to the sea.

Reader Juan P. Siracusa believes that not only is the manhole an eyesore, it was also dangerous, since children might be tempted to venture close to the gushing water.

"From the prefabricated planks located just at the side of the manhole, one would deduce that it was once sealed. However, for some reason, this has been uncovered and let as is for a considerable amount of time, Mr Siracusa said.

He hoped that the Water Services Corporation would inspect the site and rectify matters accordingly.
