Having spent a wonderful week in Gozo, we could not help noticing the disastrous state many pavements are in, creating a hazard for pedestrians.

In Victoria, due to pavements being either too narrow or in a state of disrepair, mothers with babies have to manoeuvre their pushchairs on the road, risking life and limb.

When these pavements were built they were not planned to take pushchairs, people with special needs or the heavy flow of tourists visiting the town. Furthermore, on St Ursula Street, two unused garages full of rubbish, debris and foodstuff left-overs, are creating an unhygienic environment and an eyesore.

We urge the local council and other authorities concerned to take immediate action and start widening these narrow pavements and repair them where necessary before we hear of a fatal accident. The cleaning up of the garages mentioned should not be overlooked.
