A 56-year-old man from Kalkara has been fined €700 after he was found guilty of driving carelessly and causing an accident in which a motorcyclist suffered a five per cent disability.

The accident took place in Triq is-Santwarju, Zabbar on September 8, 2009.

Victim Alfred Cauchi told the court he was riding in Triq is-Santwarju and saw Nazzareno Delceppo on the stop sign further up the road to his right.

He said he sounded his horn as he got close to but Mr Delceppo kept on driving and hit him.

But Mr Delceppo told the court that he stopped on the stop sign and looked around but the biker came out of nowhere.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli concluded that Mr Delceppo had not kept a proper lookout.

She did not suspend his licence after the prosecuting officer declared he was not insisting on a suspension and that he was being found guilty of careless and not dangerous driving.
