Justice Minister Owen Bonnici yesterday told Parliament it was next to impossible to quantify the economic advantage and monetary savings brought about by the reduction of bureaucracy, but the savings were there.

Deputising for Prime Minister Joseph Muscat to answer a number of questions by Jason Azzopardi (PN) and one by government MP Joe Sammut, Dr Bonnici said one ministry he could certainly talk about was his: Justice.

A lot of IT tools have been introduced into the court system to speed things up

Together with the Management Efficiency Unit (MEU), a lot of IT tools had been introduced into the court system to speed things up and heavily reduce the loss of people’s working hours.

Although not costable, the benefits were being felt on the ground. They would be felt even further with the appointment of MP Anthony Agius Decelis as Commissioner for the Reduction of Bureaucracy. Antiquated laws had been repealed, including two that concerned carrier pigeons and Germany as an enemy.
