A Nigerian who lives in Spain has been remanded in custody after pleading not guilty of trying to pass on three passports and three Spanish residence permit cards to illegal immigrants in Malta.

Armstrong Omenese was stopped at the airport yesterday on suspicion of drug smuggling. Although he was found clean, officers found the passports in his suitcase.

Mr Omenese admitted in a police statement that he was paid by a man in Spain to bring the passports to Malta and to hand them over to third persons.
