Joseph Cuschieri, Malta's sixth MEP, has called on Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi to bring up the matter of the ratification of the protocol which would give Malta its sixth seat in the European Parliament with the Greek Prime Minister this week.

In a letter sent to Dr Gonzi this morning, Mr Cuschieri pointed out that the protocol had not yet been signed by Belgium, the United Kingdom, Romania and Greece.

But while the ratification process in the former three countries was nearing the end, the process had barely started in Greece, which was ignoring it without any valid reason.

Mr Cuschieri also asked Dr Gonzi to ask Malta's representative in the EU Richard Cachia Caruana to bring up this matter in the first meeting about European summits.

He said it was his duty to submit these requests as someone democratically elected by the people to represent them in the EP, something he has been denied from doing for two years.
