The Curia said on Wednesday that a Nigerian family whose seven-year-old daughter died on Sunday lived independently in an apartment leased to it by the Dominican nuns at the request of the government's AWAS agency in 2016.

The family was not under the care of any church entity.

The statement was issued after the government denied that the family were under the care of Appoġġ, another government agency.
