A total of 34 cruise liners called in Valletta last month, carrying 52,951 passengers, terminal operator Viset said.

It said in a statement this was an increase of around 22,007 passengers, 41.56 per cent, over May last year.

On May 31, the port of Valletta hosted a home-porting operation for the cruise liner Zenith.

Operated by Pullmantur Cruises, the Malta-flagged Zenith embarked and disembarked a total of 1,338 passengers on this cruise & fly operation.

Since the beginning of the year, 153,646 cruise passengers called in Valletta, compared to 100,219 passengers in the same period last year. This was an increase of 53 per cent.
