Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi affirmed in Parliament yesterday that the government does not consider a crucifix in a public space as going counter to human rights.

He was answering a question by Labour MP Alfred Sant, who had asked for the government's evaluation of the European Court of Human Rights' decision regarding the display of crucifixes in Italian school classes.
