The Crisis Intervention Team, which offers intensive support to people who experience a psychiatric crisis, followed 1,282 clients last year.

Only 169 needed to be hospitalised at Mount Carmel.

This was stated by Parliamentary Secretary for Community Care Mario Galea during a visit to the team.

He said that the other clients continued to be followed by Mater Dei’s Outpatients Unit or other psychiatric teams working within the community.

The Crisis Intervention Team, which operates from Mater Dei Hospital, also offers support in cases of attempted suicide and helps patients with mental problems.
