Australia surprised the World XI with a crushing 93-run victory in the first of three one-day internationals at the Docklands Stadium, Melbourne, yesterday. After deciding to bat first Australia scored a respectable 255 for eight, opener Simon Katich top-scoring with 58. New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori was the pick of the World XI bowlers with four for 33 off 10 overs. The highly vaunted World XI batting line-up then failed to fire, collapsing to 162 all out in the 42nd over.
