The Civil Protection Department in the first nine months of this year responded to 3,931 reports of fires, 104 traffic accidents and 31 calls for animal rescue, Home Affairs Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici said today.
He gave the statistics as he presided over the signing of a sponsorship agreement which will see the CPD upgrade its communications set-up in a Mobile Coordination Centre which will be used in major incidents and activities drawing large crowds.
Dr Mifsud Bonnici said this sponsorship was particularly important since fast coordination of rescue operations could mean the difference between life and death.
The sponsorship agreement was signed by David Kay, CEO of GO plc and Peter Cordina, director of the Civil Protection Department.
