A man has been ordered to pay more than € 17,000 in damages to a cousin of his after a bar brawl 10 years ago.

Mr Justice Silvio Meli in the First Hall of the Civil Court delivered the judgment following an action filed by Paul Abela against his second cousin Paul Inguanez.

The court heard that the two men were with friends in Paceville in October 2003. Mr Abela, who was 17 years old at the time, had bought a round of drinks but got the wrong drink for Mr Inguanez. This led to a verbal altercation between the two men, which led to Mr Inguanez breaking his glass on Mr Abela’s neck and causing him permanent scarring.

Mr Inguanez attempted to defend himself by claiming he had been provoked by Mr Abela, but the court found his plea had not been proven.

The court found in favour of Mr Abela and ordered Mr Inguanez to pay him €17,415 in damages.
