An auditor appointed by a court as part of proceedings following the murder of Martin Scicluna, 43 of Zurrieq, said today that he had no doubt that the books of the business which the victim shared with the accused Dione Mercieca were not well kept.

Mercieca is accused of having killed Scicluna in their shop, All Sports, in Qormi in September 2008. He is alleging that that the accounts were not being well kept and did not reflect the state of the business.

He has also alleged that some two weeks before his death, the victim had spoken to the company's accountant , telling them that he wanted to remove him (Dione Mercieca) from the business, blaming him for losses which the company was incurring. Mr Mercieca is insisting that is was Mr Scicluna who was to blame for the state of the business.

Auditor Charles Scerri in brief testimony said there were serious shortcomings in the accounts.
