The skipper of an Italian trawler intercepted by the AFM yesterday, has admitted to illegal fishing in Maltese waters.

Francesco Giancalone, 44, made his admission before the Magistrates' Court this morning and was fined €35,000. A small amount of fish on board his boat, the Mamma Maria, was confiscated.

The court ordered him to stay in Malta until the fine is paid up.
