Eurotours has submitted its VAT return for March to April 2014, when it stopped operations, and a court summons issued to Nationalist MP Chris Said was being withdrawn, the Nationalist Party said.

It said in a statement that Dr Said had been summoned to appear in court because Eurotours Ltd, of which he was director during the time he spent as party general secretary, had not submitted its VAT return for March to May 2014.

The PN said that the necessary verification was carried out and it found that the return for the period had not been sent as an oversight primarily because the company stopped commercial operations on April 1.

It immediately took steps to submit the return and the Department informed Dr Said that the charge was being withdrawn as happened in such cases when a return was subsequently filed.

In a reply, the Labour Party said it was surreal how Dr Said was accused of a criminal act and, according to the Nationalist Party, it was as if nothing had happened because he regulated himself.

It was clear that for them, if someone from the PN's internal clique rectified a crime under the tax law, they should not be prosecuted.

The Opposition leader used different measures for him and the Labour Party, it said.
