A 25-year-old man from Qormi was this morning remanded at the Suret il-Bniedem shelter in Gzira against a personal guarantee of €7,000 after he pleaded not guilty to threatening his father with a firearm he was in the illegal possession of.

Keith Agius, who already has already a pending court case following an argument with his brother during which a knife was used, told Magistrate Edwina Grima that he had had problems with his father since he was a young boy.

Police Inspector Roderick Zammit said it would not make sense to grant the man bail and send him home because things would only get worse.

His probation officer Marilyn Attard told the court she was trying to teach Mr Agius how to contain his anger and he was doing well.

Magistrate Grima ordered Mr Agius to stay at Suret il-Bniedem until the case was heard.
