The Director of the Criminal Courts was today ordered to pay €1,000 to a company whose office in Qormi was sealed by the courts after a murder, but the air conditioner was left on.

The office, at Scicluna Installations Ltd in Qormi, was sealed after Martin Scicluna was murdered there in September 2008.

The office was handed back to the company in July 2009,

Mrs Scicluna’s wife had noticed that the air-conditioner was on and the company subsequently received a bill for €1,081, covering the period when the office was sealed. Previous bills had all been settled.

The company therefore sued the director, who was ordered to pay €1,000 by the Small Claims Tribunal presided by Dr Vincent Galea.
