A Nigerian immigrant was jailed for nine months by Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera after she was caught at the airport's departures lounge trying to leave Malta.

Christiana Aisaac, 22, pleaded guilty to using a false passport and ID card while trying to leave the island on Wednesday. She was caught at the departures lounge at Malta International Airport.

Ms Aisaac also admitted to giving false information.

Meanwhile, in a separate case, a man from Kacne Town, in Africa was jailed for three months for trying to leave Malta illegally.

John Essiful, 22, residing at the tent village in Ħal Far, pleaded guilty to trying to leave Malta without a passport.

Police Inspector Joseph Hersey prosecuted.
