A 25-year-old man from Senglea was today remanded in custody after pleaded not guilty to slightly injuring his former girlfriend.

Dunstan Cassar was also charged with keeping the woman against her will, threatening and harassing her. The incident took place in Zebbug yesterday.

Police Inspector Tony Cachia said four reports were filed against the accused by the former girlfriend whom the accused did not want to leave alone.

Magistrate Miriam Hayman asked defence lawyer Ludwig Caruana for some background on the case.

Dr Caruana said that the accused was at his office when he needed to get their daughter’s birth certificate. They could not get hold of Gavin Gulia, the woman's lawyer, so Mr Cassar went to Zebbug to personally get the certificate, saw her at the square and asked for the certificate.

Inspector Cachia said Mr Cassar grabbed the woman from her shoulders, dragged her to his car across the Zebbug square and threatened her. She managed to get away and called the police, he said.
