A court has given broadcaster Lou Bondi two weeks  to explain himself after lawyer Toni Abela, who is appeared in a libel case, pointed out to the court that Mr Bondi had kissed the cross before giving evidence, even though he had declared himself to be an atheist.

In a note to the Court, Dr Abela said that he was asking the Court to issue the necessary directives about the testimony given so far by Mr Bondi under religious oath.

The issue cropped up during proceedings in a libel case insisted by Mr Bondi against Wenzu Mintoff.

The court, following a request by Mr Bondi's lawyer, said it was giving Mr Bondi two weeks to make his own submissions.
