A couple have had their marriage annulled after a court upheld the wife’s plea of excessive interference by the husband’s parents.

His parents would spend the evenings at the couple’s home, even dictating what programmes they would watch on TV. Her father-in-law would switch channels when he saw babies so that she would not get broody. Whenever she manifested affection to her husband the parents would comment that their son was “theirs until death,” she said.

The husband said one day he left home after an argument. Reconciliation came with unacceptable conditions. He could not go to the gym nor go out with his colleagues after work. He then filed for separation.

The court upheld the wife’s arguments and said the couple’s parents had influenced the couple’s decision to get married.
