The Family Commission of the Gozo Diocese, in collaboration with the Cana Movement (Gozo), recently held a half-day conference entitled Għaliex tiżżewweġ? (Why get married?) at Villa Fiorita in Marsalforn.

Following an introduction highlighting the various opportunities of guidance and support being offered by the diocese to engaged and married couples, two married couples shared their personal experience on how participation in such initiatives had given a positive contribution to their marriage. The conference was then addressed by Angela Abela, a practising family therapist and director of the Centre for Family Studies within the University of Malta.

Dr Abela explored the motivations leading to and sustaining marriage, the challenges within marriage and lifelong commitment and the significance of adequate guidance as a means of effectively enabling couples to mature in sound and beautiful relationships.
