A couple living in Antarctica are set to become the first to get married in British Antarctic Territory on this weekend.

Polar field guides Julie Baum and Tom Sylvester will enjoy a champagne breakfast, an intimate ceremony and a live band performance at Rothera Research Station, British Antarctic Survey (BAS) said.

Twenty guests at the meteorological and marine science station will join them, with the exact time of the ceremony dependent on weather conditions. The base currently sees limited daylight and wind gusts of approximately 30 miles per hour (48 kilometres per hour), BAS added.

Baum and Sylvester have been a couple for 11 years and engaged for three years.
