A man and his wife from Birżebbuġa were yesterday arrested in connection with a hold-up at a Fgura beauty salon last week during which the owner was tied up and robbed of around €300.

The 23-year-old woman and 30-year-old man were arrested yesterday morning after the owner of the beauty salon in Triq il-Koppla told police she recognised the man from file photos, police sources told The Sunday Times.

The couple walked into the beauty salon on Wednesday to make an appointment for later in the day. However, when they presented themselves they postponed the appointment to the following day, probably because there were too many people in the salon to carry out the robbery, sources said.

On Thursday morning, the couple walked into the salon and the man brandished a knife. The salon owner was tied up and the couple, who did not bother covering their faces, stole a laptop and around €300, sources said.

No one was injured and the couple left on foot.

They are expected to be arraigned today.
