A man and a woman have been remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to misappropriating €50,000 from at least six victims.

Carmela Zammit, 44 of Salina, and Norbert Farrugia, 38 of Siggiewi, allegedly told people that they were friends of the prime minister and claimed they could get them employment at the freeport. They then requested payments from their victims for medical insurance and specialised training.

Ms Zammit was also accused of breaching a conditional discharge imposed in 2006 and commiting a crime during the operative term of a suspended sentence.
