Prime Minister Joseph Muscat told supporters this evening that his government had already gone one-third of the way in implementing its electoral manifesto.

To a standing ovation the Prime Minister said more than half of the manifesto would be implemented by year's end.

He was speaking at a political activity in Birzebbuga.

Dr Muscat asked the people to pass judgement on the government's performance in the forthcoming European Parliament election.

"We are not perfect but I am sure people will not forget the deceit they experienced under the previous administration," he insisted.

Dr Muscat said the country was "morally obliged" to rectify the damage done to the south, adding the government would undertake a number of projects to improve the quality of life there.

He briefly mentioned the power station project saying the floating gas storage unit would be a temporary solution until a pipeline is built.

Urging supporters to go out and vote, he insisted the government would keep its word and implement all pledges, including finding solutions to the injustices highlighted by grievances boards.

With the Labour Party concerned about voter abstention, especially from its hard core, it was left to Parliamentary Secretary Michael Falzon to inject some verve in the crowd before Dr Muscat spoke.

A former leadership contender, Dr Falzon insisted that on May 24 he would be there campaigning alongside the Prime Minister for all the candidates.

"I will be there. Be with us because we kept our word with you," he said to applause.
