A judge ordered the destruction of nearly 3,000 bottles of counterfeit Jack Daniel's whiskey after the container was seized by the Freeport's customs comptroller.

On June 30, Jack Daniel's Properties Inc. was informed that, following an inspection, the comptroller had seized a container containing 2,988 bottles of whiskey aboard a ship named CMA CGM Fidelio.

Further tests indicated that the whiskey, despite bearing the Jack Daniel's trademark, was in fact not Jack Daniel's and that it had been manufactured and exported without the company's consent.

The container's destination was Alkhmus City, Libya.

Mr Justice Mark Chetcuti ruled that the whiskey was in contravention of intellectual property rights and ordered the whiskey's destruction within 90 days.
