St Julians local council has dropped its plans to build a car park below Balluta Square.

It said it took its decision following last Friday's public meeting when all residents were against the project.

The council said its decision was unanimous.

The residents in their rowdy meeting had insisted that the car park would draw cars to an urban area and create harmful emissions. They insisted there was no need for the car park, and if a car park was to be built, the site near Tiguglio nightclub was more appropriate.

The council had promised to drop the project if residents were against it.
