Costumes, head-dresses, props and stage sets dating back a century have been dusted down for an exhibition to mark the 100th anniversary of Malta's oldest theatre club.

The Malta Amateur Dramatic Club, or MADC, as it is commonly known today, was set up in 1910. The club's first performance that year was the pantomime Aladdin And His Wonderful Lamp, which ran for 12 shows, including two special performances and a gala night.

The original head-dress worn by MADC stalwart Joe Mompalao de Piro, when he played the part of the Dame in Aladdin, will be on display at the exhibition, which will include costumes, props, original models of a pantomime set and photos dating back to 1924.

The exhibition, held under the auspices of the Tourism Parliamentary Secretariat and the Malta Tourism Authority, will be held at the Auberge D'Italie in Merchants Street, Valletta, between Friday and January 29. It will be open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and for Città Magica on January 9.
