Customs officers working with officials of the Malta Standards Authority have intercepted and seized a consignment of pesticides which were not registered with the Authority.

The consignment was in a van which arrived from Pozzallo, Sicily.

The van driver had claimed that the van was carrying plants but the pesticides were found after inspection by the Customs officers. Some were hidden among the plants and others were in a false bottom of the cargo compartment.

The importation of pesticides is restricted.

Customs said the consignment consisted of 140 litres and 20 kilos of ġesticide.

The van was also confiscated.
