The police this afternoon recovered the corpse of a 68-year-old man from Hamrun from Dock 1 in Cospicua.

The corpse was spotted floating face down by two teenagers who were walking on the promenade.

One of the teenagers, 17-year-old Christian Martin, ran to the police station round the corner.

Mr Martin and Dyna Lee Vella, 19, told Times of Malta they were walking along the promenade when they saw the man floating face down wearing everyday clothes.
A shoe was seen floating next to the corpse.

Two police officers jumped into the sea to try to save the man but he was already dead, the police said. Meanwhile, a small crowd of people gathered in the area.

It is not yet known for how long the man had been dead but foul play is not being suspected.

A magisterial inquiry is being held.
