Croatian defender Vedran Corluka should be fit for his side’s Euro 2012 Group C opener on Sunday against the Republic of Ireland despite suffering a right thigh injury in training, coach Slaven Bilic said Friday.

“Corluka’s injury was not serious, but we sent him to do a medical check up just in case,” the coach told Croatian media in Poland.

“Luckily, the MR scan showed that it was nothing serious and he should be ready for Sunday’s match,” Bilic said.

Corluka, 26 and capped over 50 times, quit training on Thursday due to a painful hamstring.

“Corluka should follow a particular regime of training until Sunday because we do not want to risk anything,” Bilic added.

Bilic’s squad has been badly hit by injuries already with defender Dejan Lovren, midfielder Ivo Ilicevic and veteran striker Ivica Olic all forced to miss the championship.

After Sunday’s match in Poznan the Croats - quarter-finalists in 2008 - go on to play Italy four days later, also in Poznan, and defending champions Spain on June 18 in Gdansk.
