The Corinthia Hotel in Lisbon has been named Europe’s leading green hotel in the 22nd World Travel Awards, for its energy efficiency project. It was also named Portugal’s leading conference hotel.

St Petersburg claimed the title of Europe’s Leading Destination, while Lufthansa held its title as Europe’s Leading Airline for the fifth consecutive year.

The Ciragan Palace Kempinski in Istanbul won the Leading Hotel award while Forte Village Resort claimed four trophies, including recognition as Italy’s Leading Resort and Europe’s Leading Resort.

All the winners from the European awards will now compete in the World Travel Awards in December.

The winners of the Malta categories are Le Meridien (Leading Boutique Hotel), Intercontinental (Leading Business Hotel and Leading Hotel), Penthouse Suite at the Westin (Leading Hotel Suite), Westin (Leading Resort) and Corinthia Palace (Leading Spa Resort).
