A convicted prostitute with a 16-page criminal record has been jailed for three months after pleading guilty to the possession of heroin while in jail in 2012.
Jacqueline Rapinett, 38, admitted to being in possession of an amount of heroin found on her person during a random search at the Corradino Correctional Facility on October 7, 2012.
Given the admission, Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras jailed her for three months after considering her voluminous conviction sheet, consisting of 16 pages with 23 convictions for loitering and prostitution and four convictions over aggravated theft.
However, the magistrate heard how Ms Rapinett was currently attending a residential drug rehabilitation programme, and was showing the necessary motivation to successfully conclude it. The court could not ignore this and therefore imposed the minimum jail term which she could serve while attending the residential programme.
Police Inspectors Spiridione Zammit and Herman Mula prosecuted.
