The implementation of social policies to reduce poverty and inequalities was the key discussion during the third annual convention of the European Platform against Poverty and Social Exclusion.

The European Platform against Poverty and Social Exclusion sets out actions to reduce poverty and social exclusion in Europe.

The convention brought together governmental delegations of the different members’ states and a wide variety of actors active in the fight against poverty and social exclusion.

The Maltese delegation was composed by Maria Rauch and Yana Bland Mintoff as advisers at the Ministry for the Social Solidarity and Fr Saviour Grima who represents the Anti-Poverty Forum Malta.

The Convention was addressed by European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, the President of the European Council Herman van Rompuy and the Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion László Andor.
