A controversial proposal for the trapping of Finches to be allowed in the autumn will be on the agenda of the Ornis committee at a meeting today, informed sources said.

The committee - which groups the government and representatives of the hunters and ornithologists - will discuss the possibility of having a season for trapping, as happened last year.

But while trapping last year was restricted to Golden Plover and Song Thrush, the new proposal also seeks trapping of  Finches.

No trapping of Finches has been allowed since 2009.
