Industry and university student teams have been fighting it out in the annual ICT Students Association (ICTSA) programming competition powered by Castille Resources.

The annual event, which is fast becoming the national software programming competition, was held on the weekend starting Friday February 18 when the teams were tasked to come up with the most creative and effective solution.

This year, teams were challenged to write a software program for a robot landing on Mars with a 360-degree camera. They were given a map of the terrain and the robot’s landing spot and were asked to produce a sequence of instructions which maximises the photographed land on Mars within a short period of time after landing.

The teams competed for cash prizes, trophies and pride. All entries were judged by three members of the Faculty of ICT at the University of Malta, independent from ICTSA, and the winners were announced on Friday 25 at the award ceremony at Villa Bighi, Kalkara, which was attended by students, academics and industry representatives.

The ITDGS team won the students’ category, with WM placing second. Atlas Insurance won the industry section, for the second year running, with CCBILL EU securing second place.

Castille Resources powered the competition and MCST, BOV, IXARIS & Paper plus Studio were additional sponsors of the event.

Castille Resources said they were pleased to sponsor the ICTSA programming competition for the second year running as part of their ongoing commitment to support IT professionals of the future.
