The government is set to launch a consultation process on the setting up of an Immigration Work Office to offer temporary work for migrants.

The aim will be to ensure that the sector is regulated, Finance Minister Edward Scicluna said in the Budget speech.

Migrants will no longer be able to solicit work in the streets as is done at present in Marsa.

Those given work will be required to pay tax, but measurers will be taken to ensure that such temporary workers do not replace permanent workers.
