In the first year since the Malta Environment and Planning Authority started inspecting building sites under the new regulations, it has collected €36,104 in fines.

Swieqi residents have suffered most, since construction works in Swieqi have caused the most problems.

The fines amount to €6,754.

On behalf of all the Swieqi residents, I insist that all the fines collected as a result of the hardship suffered by residents should be all invested directly in our locality. We expect that every euro collected is invested in improving our environment.

Swieqi residents suffered inconveniences for two years due to the reconstruction of the Regional Road bridge.

They had to live in dust and noise pollution of the worst form. One of the highest rates of air pollution was recorded in our locality.

Triq il-Keffa became an arterial road and all heavy traffic passed though this street. The road, which was never designed for heavy traffic, was reduced to a pitiful state and had to repaired from Swieqi council funds. This money was reallocated from other much needed projects in the locality.

There is a great sense of frustration among Swieqi residents. The Malta Environment and Planning Authority should reassure us that we will not be taken for a ride once again.
