A Cospicua man is in police custody after police discovered a "considerable" amount of cannabis in a car on Saturday afternoon.

Rapid Intervention Unit officers patrolling Cospicua noticed a suspicious vehicle at around 5pm and motioned for its driver to pull over.

Instead of doing so, he sped off and snaked around Cospicua streets before ditching his car on Triq il-Gendus.

Police searched the vehicle and found the cannabis as well as other drug paraphernalia. A short while later, officers arrested a Cospicua man in connection with the case.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke is leading an inquiry into the case.
