Simon Spiteri, 48 of San Gwann was condemned to two years imprisonment suspended for four years after Magistrate Antonio Mizzi convicted him of having defrauded three people for a total of €8,385 by promising them a job at Malta Freeport.

Spiteri had demanded payment from the three persons, all from Mellieha, in order to secure them jobs through his contacts.

The court ordered him to repay the money.

The cases happened in 2006.

Malta Freeport had denied any links with the accused.
