A conference on women and men in an enlarged Europe is being held in Malta for accession countries by the EU Commission at the Corinthia San Gorg Hotel, St Julian's, from Thursday to Saturday.

Areas to be addressed include Social Policy and Equal Opportunities in an Enlarged Europe; the Community acquis in the area of equal treatment between women and men: transposition of the acquis, a key element of gender equality policy; gender mainstreaming in the European Employment Strategy; Gender Mainstreaming in social protection and inclusion; Financial Instruments and Gender Mainstreaming.

The conference will be addressed by representatives of the European Commission, the Irish Presidency of the EU, ministers of accession countries, including Malta, ETUC, UNICE and by the chairperson of the European Women's Lobby.
