A man who left his dog to die of hunger and thirst was this morning conditionally discharged for three years and banned from keeping animals for life. He was also fined €230.

Magistrate Saviour Demicoli found Kevin Attard, 28, of Zebbug guilty of animal cruelty after the court heard that his dog was found in the early stages of decomposition at a garage in Zebbug on May 26.

Before handing judgement, the magistrate took into consideration the fact that the accused suffered from mental problems.
