A woman has been conditionally discharged for three years after she admitted to trying to carry out an abortion in April last year.

Magistrate Saviour Demicoli heard how the woman had tried to terminate her own pregnancy in a desperate gesture that was triggered by personal and domestic problems.

However, she immediately realised that she had committed a mistake and went to St Luke’s Hospital for treatment.

The baby was saved and, today, the woman is raising her son responsibly as a single mother, the court observed.
