Soprano Dorothy Baldacchino will perform a lunchtime concert of lieder and romantic arias today at St Augustine Monastery, Valletta.

Her repertoire embraces the Baroque, lieder as well as 20th century song. In this concert she will perform Vivaldi’s Domine Deus from Gloria and Schubert’s Du bist die ruh. The programme continues with songs by French composer Fauré, namely Après un rêve and Chanson d’amour and Grieg’s lieder songs Solvejg’s Lied and Ich liebe dich.

She will also sing Bernstein’s Piccola Serenata and Schumman’s Du bist wie eine Blume.

The performance ends with Barber’s Sure on this shining night and Purcell’s Hark! The echoing air.

Pianist Irina Fedcenko-Carbonaro will accompany the singer and provide musical interludes by Chopin and Dvarionas.

Following the concert, patrons will be offered a free visit to the chambers of the monastery.

The concert will be held today at noon at St Augustine Monastery, Old Bakery Street, Valletta. Proceeds are in aid of the Augustinian monastery’s restoration. Tickets will be available from the venue half an hour before the concert. For details call 7968 0952 or e-mail baroccomalta@gmail.com.
