The Director of Industrial Relations has proposed a compromise as a way to resolving the stalemate reached in talks between the Malta Union of Bank Employees and HSBC, the union said this evening.

The union said earlier this week that talks on a new collective agreement were deadlocked on clauses which include pay.

The union said that it yesterday called a strike at the bank's Wealth Management section. The action started at noon and continued today.

The action, the union said, was 'a total success'.

It said it was now considering a compromise proposed by Dr Noel Vella, the Director of Employment and Industrial relations. The proposal, it said, might see both sides  return to the negotiating table.
